In the article, The Difference between Praise and Feedback, the author explains that the “inverse power of praise” have made it very difficult for parents to positive feelings or attitudes to their kids without having to face negative consequences. One method the author gives to fix this problem is the “process of praise.” This method particularly focuses on praising effort or strategy of students rather than simply praising students themselves.

However, the author explains that it is important to strike a balance between praise and person hood as kids should not feel that their parents only value them due to their actions. The author also explains that it is important for parents to be involved in their children’s life and that they need to ask questions and communicate freely with their children.

By providing “helpful, detailed, and encouraging feedback,” parents are able to praise their children more effectively. I like the methods that the author proposes as they seem effective is solving the problem of overpraising, I think that feedback is one of the more effective methods as parents are able to be actively involved in their children’s life.

In the article, Why Do So Many Managers Avoid Giving Praise, the author explains that many managers’ dread the idea of giving negative feedback as they find it stressful and difficult. This anxiety has caused managers’ to be resistant to giving any sort of critical feedback to their employees. However, the author explains that even more people were resistant to giving positive feedback to their employees. This is possibly due to the fact that leaders underestimate the power of positive reinforcement in the workplace. This is a huge mistake, as positive feedback is as important as negative feedback as it boosts employee’s morale and motivation at work.
