Week 2 Reading Overview
Week 2: Reading
I chose to read to the "R.K. Narayan's" version of the Ramayana as I have already bought the book at the beginning of the semester. Also, I prefer to read books in the actual book format as I can mark in the book and make physical notes in it as well. Also, I usually tend to read more if I have the physical copy of a book rather than an online version.

Since I was kid, I have always admired classical Indian dancing because it is very intricate, precise and beautiful. For that reason, I was really interested in the comic book "Vasantasena, A Dancer." Also, I thought that is it was interesting that this story was similar to a Shakespearean comedy. This story reminds me of an Indian story called "Manichitrathazhu," which translates to "the ornate lock" in Malayalam. The story basically is about a young temple dancer, similar to Vasantasena, who is pursued by an evil king even though she is in love with another man. The king kills the dancer's lover and she vows revenge upon the king before killing herself. The story is called the "ornate lock" because the king traps the dancer's soul in a room that is guarded by a magical ornate lock.
The other comic book that I chose was the "Tales of Durga" because it is a really interesting story about how the goddess, Durga, kills the evil Mahisha. Also, I really liked the cover of the comic, especially the image of the goddess with her many arms and weapons.
From the playlist, the videos that I liked were "A Diwali Story: Rama and Sita Defeat Ravana, the Demon King" and the "Miracles of Lord." I like topics that are related to epics or even folktales and stories in India which is the reason why I picked these videos.
